STAR: Johor set semi-final target in national veterans tourney
PETALING JAYA: Hosts Johor have set themselves a semi-final target in this year’s National Veterans Hockey Tournament, which begins at the Taman Daya Hockey Stadium in Johor Baru today.
Johor have never gone beyond the group stage in previous tournaments but coach Gurmit Singh believes they can make at least the last four this year after being drawn in the four-team Group A, which also comprises Terengganu, Police and Perlis.
Group B has five teams – Pahang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Perak and Armed Forces.
Pahang and Terengganu were joint champions last year.
“To reach the semi-finals will be a big achievement for us. Teams like Terengganu, Pahang, Selangor, Armed Forces and Negri Sembilan are seasoned campaigners and have always done well in the tournament.”
Johor open their campaign against Perlis today (4pm).
