NST : Battle royale in penalty corners

KUALA LUMPUR: Penalty corners will be the decisive factor in Saturday's P. Alagendra Cup semi-final between Kuala Lumpur Hockey Club (KLHC) and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) in Bukit Jalil.

While KLHC have two penalty corner specialists in Razie Rahim and South Korean Jang Jong Hyun, UniKL will depend on the agility of Irish keeper David Harte to prevent them from scoring.

Razie and Jong Hyun scored from one penalty corner each in the 2-1 win over Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in Thursday's quarterfinals.

And Harte, rated one of the best goalkeepers in the world, knows he has to be sharp on Saturday to prevent goals.

"Jong Hyun has been very consistent in the Malaysian Hockey League (MHL) in the last two seasons,” said Harte.

"We have a good set of defensive players (local and foreign) and we will contain him and Razie from scoring from penalty corners.”

KLHC were awarded three penalty corners in the match against TNB and converted two of them.

However, coach Lim Chiow Chuan said:"Harte is a great keeper, hence it will be interesting to see the outcome of this duel."
