NST : KLHC remain on course to retain Premier Division crown

BUKIT JALIL: KL Hockey Club (KLHC) kept themselves in the hunt to retain their MHL Premier Division title when they defeated Universiti KL (UniKL) 3-1 at the National Hockey Stadium on Sunday.

Despite playing without three national players in Izad Hakimi Jamaluddin, Nabil Fiqri Mohd Noor and drag-flick specialist Razie Rahim, KLHC were composed and took their chances well.

UniKL went on the offensive in the very first minute and earned a penalty corner but Najmi Farizm Jazlan sent his attempt wide.

The pressure on KLHC continued and in the fifth minute, Dutchman Jeroen Hertzberger maneuvered his way into the semi circle and relayed the ball to Glenn Turner.

The Australian fired a blistering shot but goalkeeper Roslan Jamaluddin kept his cool to palm it away.

Turner, however, put UniKL ahead in the sixth minute after picking a cross from Hertzberger.

Harvinder Singh, however, restored parity for KLHC in the 15th minute from a goalmouth melee.

Lee Nam Yeong (32nd minute) and Jang Jong Hyun (45th) netted KLHC's other goals for the three points.

They play TNB on Wednesday while UniKL take on Maybank.

In other matches, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) hammered TNB Thunderbolts 6-0 while Terengganu Hockey Team (THT) edged Maybank 2-1.
