Star : KLHC vow to return stronger after defeat to Tenaga

KUALA LUMPUR: Star-studded KL Hockey Club (KLHC) are down but not out despite a shocking 2-4 defeat to Tenaga Nasional in the Malaysia Hockey League (MHL) last Sunday.

KLHC, powered by seven internationals and six foreign players, have only one point to show from two matches and they are currently in fifth place in the six-team standings.

They drew 2-2 with Terengganu in the Charity Shield before winning 4-3 in a penalty shootout last Friday.

KLHC face Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) at the KL Hockey Stadium today.

KLHC coach Lim Chiow Chuan said they needed to learn from last Sunday’s defeat and look ahead.

“As I said before, it’s about consistency and enduring roller-coaster rides.

“There are still many more matches to go and the defeat will make us stronger,” said Chiow Chuan.

KLHC are banking on penalty corner specialist Jang Jong-hyun to deliver against UniKL.

The South Korean, top scorer the last two seasons, has netted three goals in the first two matches.

UniKL, who lost 3-2 to Tenaga in the opening match, bounced back to trounce Maybank 6-0 to move up to third in the standings.

UniKL coach A. Arulselvaraj said that despite a convincing win over the Tigers, he was still not happy with his side’s defending.

“We also need to do better in penalty corners as the setpieces are not working to expectations.

“It’s always good to win by a big margin but we need to be consistent in our performance,” said Arulselvaraj.
