NST : Kedah could be penalised for no-show

The Kedah Hockey Association (KHA) are expected to be punished by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) for an eleventh-hour no-show for the ongoing National Under-16 tournament.

Kedah players were left stranded on Friday when the bus that was supposed to ferry them to Kuala Lumpur did not turn up.

Tournament director Hafeez Yunus said a report will be submitted to the MHC for further action.

"Yes, Kedah failed to show up and as a result, we had to change the scheduling. Kedah could be penalised for it,” said Hafeez.

KHA secretary B. Sandra Gesan said: "We conducted trials to select players and even had centralised training for both our boys’ and girls teams.

“However, our bus broke down and we could not find other options as to hire a new bus for nine days would have cost us about RM8,000, which is beyond our budget.

“I have explained this to MHC via a letter,” he said.

In the letter to MHC, Sandra noted that the national body should raise the grant for teams from RM3,000 to RM5,000, and also provide transportation and other allowances for teams who need to travel more than 150m for tournaments.

“The current allocation is a decade old and MHC should consider the rising costs of things and review it. We were ready but unfortunately our bus broke down and we could not afford another.
