NST : KLHA's Rajamanickam slams Under-16 star Kirandeep Kaur

The Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association (KLHA) have claimed that Kirandeep Kaur did not attend trials at all for the ongoing National Under-16 tournament.

KLHA secretary V. Rajamanickam said: “Yes, I agree that Kirandeep is a player with talent but she also has to go through the selection processes like other players.

On Saturday, NSTP Sport revealed that Kirandeep Kaur attended three days of training with KL’s Under-16 squad, but under a different coach and manager. However, she was not informed about the new venue and selection dates when KLHA changed their coach and manager.

"Yes we did change the coach and manager midway through selection but that is KLHA's prerogative. How come all the other girls knew about the new selection dates and venue, but not Kirandeep?," questioned Rajamanickam.

National women’s coach K. Dharmaraj was also puzzled over KL’s decision not to select Kirandeep for the Under-16 girls’ tournament as he regards her as a promising player.

Rajamanickam agreed with Dharmaraj but said: "We all know she is a player with talent. But I am sure Dharmaraj has also dropped talented players with disciplinary problems before.

"We just did the same," he added.

Kirandeep may have skipped the trials to compete in the KL Schools Sports Council athletics meet where she won gold medals in the 100m, 4x100m, 4x400m and a bronze in the 200m.
